Clinical Informatics Specialist

Brief Description:
Primary Systems is seeking a full-time RN with both the clinical knowledge and analytic skills for the position of Clinical Informatics Specialist. Applicant’s role will be to assess current clinical workflows, then coordinate. and serve as a change agent for the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of clinical quality initiatives for our customers, as well as provide support of associated products and services. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing or Healthcare Informatics and at least 4 years work experience in the healthcare field, with 2 years of experience directly in Health Information/Clinical Informatics preferred. The ideal candidate will be competent in MS Office applications, data analytic software, process improvement/LEAN concepts, technical familiarity with audio/visual/online presentation tools, possess excellent communication skills, proven presentation skills for delivery to large audiences, and have an ability to adapt and work effectively with a wide range of individuals within the healthcare setting.

Summary:
The Clinical Informatics Specialist’s primary function will be to assess current clinical workflows, then coordinate and serve as a change agent for the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of clinical quality initiatives for our customers, as well as provide support of associated products and services.

Overall Responsibilities:
– Represent the company in a positive and professional manner

– Maintain professional relationship with all office personnel

System Analysis:
– Acts as change agent in the identification, development, planning, implementation, and value measurement of strategies to support and integrate quality patient care and professional practice
– Assess, plans, designs, implements, and evaluates clinical workflows
– Researches, gathers, and analyzes information, then proposes solutions for clinical workflow efficiencies 
– Become knowledgeable of existing user workflows
– Participates in new/modification workflow opportunities
– Participates in workflow and support-tool discovery prior to implementation

Problem Identification and Resolution: 
– Evaluates the effectiveness of technologies (Nurse Call, RTLS, Mobility/Phones) and workflows that impact clinical users, including identification of hardware issues
– Monitors the clinical environment, technology, and infrastructure to support the prevention/mitigation of medical errors and alert fatigue
– Participates with test-system development and testing clinical workflows as needed
– Identify and establish relationship with prospective customers
– Perform clinical design assessment of client’s clinical processes and facilitate the decision-making process to determine opportunities for enhancement
– Ensures clinical practices and corresponding policy/procedures follow compliance, Joint Commission requirements, Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) guidance, and other applicable regulations and standards
– Participates as a project coordinator, focusing on initiatives supporting clinical care delivery
– Coordinate and assist occasionally with in-service training for end-users based on both client needs and contracted training hours (not a primary role)
– Provide on-site support of system implementation and go-live process
– Conduct periodic follow-up meetings to evaluates potential needs for additional improvement activities
– Maintain complete record of all activities
– Participate in the development of organizational policies and initiatives related to collecting, managing, and communicating clinical information

Minimum Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare informatics, nursing, or related field. Registered Nurse (RN) or other similar clinical designation
– Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team with proven ability to collaborate with leadership, medical staff, and employees at all levels within the organization, using a customer-focused approach to gain information to improve services
– Strong analytical ability to solve complex problems
– Detail oriented and strong time management skills
– Knowledge of clinical practice settings and clinical workflow in a hospital setting
– Troubleshooting skills to find solutions to difficult human-factor, clinical, or administrative issues
– Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
– At least 4 years work experience in the healthcare field, with 2 years of experience directly in Health Information/Clinical Informatics
– Experience with mapping clinical and operational workflows using workflow diagramming tools
– 3 years desired of technical experience in a healthcare or business environment preferred
– Experience in systems analysis/programming, customer service, vendor information, information systems, and/or project management
