St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital

St. Mary's Good Samaritan is a Catholic, not-for-profit organization serving nearly 300,000 people in an 11 county region. It is one of the largest health care organizations in southern Illinois, consisting of two regional hospitals located in Mt. Vernon and Centralia, over 120 active physicians, eight Family Health Centers, and numerous specialty programs.

Part of the hospitals mission included improving communications to help create efficiencies for their staff and ultimately providing better patient response time and care.

By replacing the existing nurse call system with the Rauland Responder IV System and integrating Ascom Wireless Phones the hospital was able to create a flexible integrated communications platform.

Nursing staff is notified of a patient call by an alert toone and vibration on the Ascom Wireless Handset, which displays the call information (room number, bed number, call priority) on an LCD display. At the simple press of a button a conversation path is opened from the caregiver to the Responder IV bedside station allowing the caregiver to discover the nature of the request before he or she travles to the room.
